The Research Center for Geographical Marks, CUPL was founded on May 26th, 2011, which is the first research center (founded-in-progress) on geographic marks in China.
The Center depends on the scientific research foundation from Institute of Intellectual Property of CCELS, Business School, and Science and Technology Department to establish a scientific platform with experts, scholars, and experienced practitioners. The responsibility of Center is to communicate and incorporate theoretical and practical resources on domestic geographic marks, conduct thorough and comprehensive research on legal protection and management of geographic marks industry so as to make deep-level communication with international geographic marks agencies as well as relevant research institutes.
The purpose of Center is to establish the supreme research platform of geographic marks in the country, provide reliable suggestions for national geographic marks legislation and policy, and offers scientific suggestions and professional counseling to national geographic marks industry.
The center is still undergone the process of application reviewing, yet the research on geographic marks by researchers had begun for years with publications of multiple writings, articles, and the cooperation with administrative agencies and enterprises. The financial support for research primarily comes from vertical and horizontal funds of research projects, donations from relevant organizations, and counseling fees. Current research project-in-progress includes:
1. “Research on Issues of Bilateral Agreement on Geographic Marks” (Project of AQSIQ, research funds 1.84 million, available funds 1.158 million)
2. “Research on Intellectual Property Strategy Worldwide” (Project of State Intellectual Property Office, research funds 150 thousand)
